UL CERTIFIED PANEL SHOP

Electrical professionals committed to providing custom industrial control solutions

The Standard for Industrial Control Panels

UL 508A is a safety standard that applies to industrial control panels. To be more specific, it covers industrial control and related devices rated 1000 volts or less used for starting, stopping, regulating, controlling or protecting electric motors.

PennAir is successfully qualified for the Implementation of Manufacturer’s Technical Representative (MTR) Certification for General Coverage of Industrial Control Panels. In order to comply to UL, PennAir has two (2) Manufacturer Technical Representatives (MTRs) on staff with expertise in UL 508A standards.

PennAir’s Automation Division assists with our UL 508A Certified Panel Shop with in-house electrical engineers by providing design specifications and programing for use in a variety of applications and working environments.

PennAir Automation provides the following features and benefits:

  • Design, support PennAir Production, and certify industrial panel enclosures for manufacturers to meet the UL 508A specification.
  • Work with outside manufacturers to review and ensure your company design will meet the UL 508A specification.
  • For applications that require it, we also design and build non-UL 508A certified panel enclosures using NFPA 70 and NFPA 79 good design practices.
  • Create large and complex one-off machine control enclosures, or can manufacture multiple enclosures.
  • Provide contract assembly and inventory control for your company’s design builds.

Control panels range from simple motor starter circuit to complex machine controls with multiple AC servo drives, Processing Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).

We provide panels for the following industries:

  • Food and Beverage
  • Communications
  • Manufacturing
  • Steel Processing
  • Wood Handling

Building inspectors will typically approve new equipment installations when the control panel has a UL 508A label, because it certifies the  safety standards have been met.
